Title: Pressed to Earth Word Count: 1936 Rated: PG-13 Fandom: Farscape Setting: AU from Self-Inflicted Wounds Characters: John Crichton, Aeryn Sun, Chiana, Zhaan, etc.
My original plan was a pitch-black S4 story chock full of action. But it just wasn't working - something I didn't realize until far too late, and this was written in a rush and with very little time to think or plan, which makes me insecure ;)
Painfully beautiful. You showed very well how the crew is fractured at this point in time, and how the fractures run deep both on the outside, with the troubled relationships between the crewmates, and on the inside. Guilt and fear and resentment - and a good deal of self-loathing, too - are scarring their souls, and it shows. But in the end... ah, in the end they try to come together for Zhaan. I love how you left it all hanging, part despair for her loss, and part hope - mirrored in Rygel's "goodbye" versus John's "goodnight". Bittersweet and lovely.
Excellent story! I love how you hit the character notes so perfectly: Aeryn's anger, Moya's determination to take action even while healing, John's memories and desires intertwined with Harvey's interjections, Pilot's concern and irritation, Chiana's fear and regret, and all of them desperate and damaged, uncertain and wary of Zhaan's fate. I love the details of the jarring, bouncing ball and the streaming silver of the oil, the Thaalians and their web (yay, ST!) falling down around them while they wait.
