I was thinking very similar things when I read the article... Specifically, I was thinking about one former student of mine, whose parents interfered on his behalf every step of the way, to his own detriment. Forgot his homework at school? Parents called to note how tired he'd been and to make sure he wasn't punished. Generally wasn't making an effort on homework, and consequently getting bad grades? Parents came in to discuss how much homework I assigned, and how he needed the freedom to play and "be a boy" after school. Called another student horrible names in the lunch line? Parents made sure that I knew he had a temper when his blood sugar was low ( ... )
