"Your place or mine?" As Kame said that, his hold on his partner's hips tightened. Said partner was a woman, a head shorter than Kame, with long black hair, sharp brown eyes and too much money for her own good.

"Mine," she cooed in reply, and tugged Kame inside the elevator. The elevator was conveniently empty, and the woman's place was just as conveniently located three blocks away from their meeting place.

The elevator doors didn't even close completely, and the woman's lips were already making sure that Kame pays attention to them. The time that the elevator took traveling from the twelfth to the twenty-third floor went by too fast, and the pair quickly ambled out the deserted hallway. Clumsy hands desperately clutched at whatever was near and at the same time, fumbled with the keys to open the door.

"Risa-chan," Kame found his tie being thrown behind him, though he honestly had no care for that right now.

"Don't worry, I'll make sure tonight will be worth it," Risa had a perverse smile on and soon she was raising up her skirt.

"That's not it," with his hands on hers, Kame stopped her when the skirt's hemline passed her midthigh. There was obvious disapproval on her face. To ease this, Kame leaned over, planted a kiss on her cheek and said, "The charade ends here."

"What are you--"

Doors burst open and lights were turned on, revealing several armed men whose guns were aimed at the couple. At this, Kame gently removed her arms from her and took a step back.

"Morita Risa, you're under arrest."

--

"Who would've thought that from the shivering teenager I found near the dumpsters that night would emerge such a person?"

"Don't tease. I've had a long night."

Ryo--who was the one who picked up and groomed Kame to be a spy--chuckled and went back to his movie. It has been two years since Ryo rescued Kame from a mission gone wrong, and from there, Kame's life as a nobody was immediately changed. In fact, Kame can easily pretend that that part of his life didn't exist anymore.

"It's sad that you did an insane amount of foreplay but didn't get to the good part though." Ryo sighed dramatically. "You should've arrested her after you did it."

"No seriously, shut up. I'll be in the bathroom if you need me."

"Do relieve yourself. You sound like a prissy spoiled brat when you're sexually frustrated."

--

They didn't talk about the past too much, or at all. First of all, their jobs required them to be ready every second of everyday. Idle chitchat about their dramatic childhoods didn't fit in that picture. Then there was the fact that Ryo was clammed up about his past. Kame knew very little of what Ryo was like before he became a spy, and all of them were rumors he heard from someone else.

"Risa-chan threw my tie away last night. I didn't get to bring it back."

"Stop calling her Risa-chan, that woman is a criminal you know."

"So she killed a few guys and stole some money. It doesn't change the fact that we were intimate for ten minutes--give or take."

"Wow. This job has done weird things to your brain, hasn't it."

Somehow, after taking Kame in as a partner, this was a pretty normal conversation for breakfast. To this day, Kame still has no idea why someone so experienced as Ryo would choose to stick with a rookie like him. But he decided that he had to try his best to not let Ryo regret making that decision.

--

There were three major rule that were imposed when living in Ryo's place. That is, first, no bringing up of the past. Doing so would earn you a gun in your face, or maybe a kick if Ryo was feeling a bit good. Second is that physical contact should be kept to a minimum. The last time Ryo touched Kame was when the former gave Kame first aid on their first meeting. The third and last rule was that you can never call Ryo by his name.

"Our job is to take the identity of someone else. As far as our job is concerned, I have no name unless an assignment comes." Kame got this as a reply when he asked. He soon came to learn that apart from work, Ryo didn't have anything else. He disagreed with his senior's reasoning about names and lack of them though.

After all, to Kame there is only Ryo.

"You've got to stop messing yourself up like this," Ryo scolded when yet another mission had Kame badly beaten up. Kame felt quite frustrated with himself at the moment, so he chose to attend to his wounds instead of replying. "Are any of your bones broken?"

"No," Kame replied, taking the gauze from the first-aid kit. Kame did well in his training sessions, but when he was with Ryo he somehow got more flustered than usual, leaving out a lot of openings for attacks.

"Any wounds that won't stop bleeding?"

"I've got it covered."

"Do you need help?"

Kame looked up from the gash on his arm, to see Ryo's troubled face. Though both of them participated in the mission, Ryo emerged from it like nothing happened. Kame gestured to the blonde wig and tattered clothes beside him, feeling more useless than usual. "You can clean that up."

Ryo nodded and grabbed the ridiculous get-up. He was about to leave the room, and Kame wanted him to leave the room so bad. Just seeing Ryo was a painful reminder of his failure.

"Hey you," Ryo called out, as he stood by the doorway. "Take better care of yourself. You'll be my partner for life, you know?"

The rookie had no reply for that, nor did he expect that either. He felt a stupid happiness fill him, and he went back to tending his wounds with renewed vigor. He'll do better next time. He'll surely do better next time.
