Title: Next Step

Rating: safe.
The locks in Sho's house were being changed. Of course, in line with this, Sho had to get new keys as well. He asked for an extra copy of the keys, something that the locksmith grinned at. At first, Sho wasn't quite sure why he did so. It was really just an impulsive thought, something that whizzed through his head. For some reason, he held on to that thought and made it a reality. And now he's stuck with two keys.
Sho eyed the other key wistfully. It was such a tiny piece of metal, but it meant so much. It meant so much that Sho feared letting go of it. It would put him in such a vulnerable state and he's never been in one of those in a long time.
"It's just a key." He told himself, although he knew it was a lie. "There's nothing wrong with giving it to anybody."
Sho managed to convince himself.
--
"Matsujun!"
Jun looked up. The hallway leading to their dressing room was empty save for Sho's approaching figure. Jun's eyebrows shot up and Sho could feel tension building up. They stood like that for a while, just looking at each other when Jun finally spoke up.
"You wanted something?"
Sho was starting to feel hot. And nervous. Maybe this was a bad idea after all.
"I--uh. Let's walk to the dressing room together?" Sho tried to save himself from embarrassment by adding a grin to that.
Jun gave him a weird look but agreed anyway. For the first time in a long time, Sho called himself a wimp.
--
Sho played with the key when no one was looking. He threw it up in the air, wishing it would just disappear. But then he caught it and he just wished he could find the words to finally give it away. He had no idea why he was fussing about it so much. It was just a key, and it's just Jun. Jun, who knew him since he was barely an adult (off doing the most idiotic of things), who was a friend for more years than he can remember, who knew almost everything about him. What was he so nervous about?
"Sho-kun, I need to go over--" Jun. That was Jun. Sho just threw the key in mid-air and now scrambled to hide it from the other's view. Sho failed utterly and and the key just bounced off and landed neatly in front of Jun's feet.
Sho looked horrified.
Jun, calm as ever, bent over and picked the key up. He held it up for Sho to see (which just horrified Sho even more). In his head, Sho was making up excuses, trying to cover up; but a part of him felt relieved that Jun was finally holding the key. Although Sho hasn't really given it to Jun and Jun hasn't really accepted it yet.
"This yours?" Jun asked.
Sho stared at Jun wide-eyed and shocked. Jun just waited for an answer.
"Uh actually, it's not."
"It's not?" Jun echoed, studying the key in his hand and then giving Sho a confused look.
"It's yours."
"Mine? But I don't remember..." It was a foreign key, Jun decided. He had never seen it before.
"Yeah. It's yours." Sho affirmed.
"Where does this key lead to?" Jun's eyebrows were furrowed and Sho took a deep breath.
"Me," he exhaled.
"Did you hit your head or something?" Arashi's youngest asked worriedly.
"It's a key to my house. And I'm giving it to you." Somehow, this made Sho even feel more of an idiot.
"Why?" Jun asked after a few moments.
"Because..."
Because you might need it if you're coming over to discuss work details.
Because you can use it if you need to pick up something from my place.
Because if you get the sudden urge to see me, that will be extremely useful.
Because I am comfortable that you have the other key.
"Because I want to." Sho finished. Jun gave him a small smile.
"I guess it's but polite to accept it," Jun grinned--half smug, half sincerely happy. "And it's also but polite to use it. I might need it when I feel the need to come over tonight."
