I'm no longer on a lot of the LJ comms from the Marthagate days (and the virtual world has moved from LJ too), but the intra-author chat on Who and Race has pointed out this Tumblr ( Read more... )

Thanks for the link to sourcedumal's post--not sure why I wasn't following on tumblr, but that has been rectified.

The comments on the original article about the collection echo the sentiments therein...CRAZY LEFTIST ACADEMICS! IT'S JUST FICTION! HUMORLESS WANKERS!

I may have fabricated that last one, but the sentiment is there. Sigh. I'm saddened by the lack of interest in intelligent dialogue surrounding this and other cultural issues. Heaven forbid anyone apply an ounce of critical thought to the products that shape and mirror our worldview...

We are, as we were told back in Marthagate, only allowed to discuss it when we are granted permission to do so by the right people in the right forums. This really is the same thing, only in a fishwrap instead of a comm.

And it's for the same damned reason too - because if we go off and discuss this by ourselves, the current leaders may find that no one follows them because new leaders have been found. And that can't be allowed, can it?

To prove that I have Learned My Lesson, I am, as soon as I post this comment, about to pitch an article on feminism and the female companions.

That piece, and the comments, was in the Daily Torygraph. Posher than the Mail, but every bit as right-wing. The racism is just that bit more disguised.

It will be very interesting to see how the Grauniad (aka the Guardian) reacts; they usually would be interested in critical thinking, but their recent DW episode reviews have been slavishly positive - almost fan-like in their admiration, devoid of any critical content.

I don't know if the Guardian has a review copy. We're trying to get more of them out there.
