This story is actually quite sad :-(. I hate that Gibbs hasn't slapped Tony for ages! I can totally see this as being the reason why but I think they both need it (or, okay, WE need it *g*).

I'm glad he at least gave Tony *praise*, because he needs that too - but maybe one day he'll give him a slap too - to show that they're both over Jenny's death.

Thanks.

It's only one reason of many and, to be honest, my thoughts on the lack of slaps have changed since I wrote this.

And yes, they (and we) really do need the slaps back, and I'm talking Gibbs/DiNozzo slaps not any other dynamic. Maybe we don't need them quite as often as they were in S2/3 but we do need some meaningful slaps (not slaps for slaps sake).

S6 has really intrigued me. Gibbs and Tony seem out of synch and there's a definite coolness between them, almost like Gibbs is just tolerating Tony. Gibbs, to me, seems preoccupied a lot of the time. The more I see of this season the more I love and hate it at the same time. I've enjoyed the backstories on Gibbs and Ducky and the snippets of info about Tony in Silent Night but it's the lack of explanation for the missing slaps, and the way Gibbs/Tony's relationship seems to be deteriorating that has made me think that this is a conscious decision by the writers and quite a subtle sub plot running throughout this season. I hope they're building up to something.

Thanks

I keep hearing this over and over again today - I was just chatting to Alli on the phone and she said it, and a couple of people have mentioned it on my LJ - it's that "out of synch" feeling and a sense of a deteriorating relationship although if that IS the case they aren't actually making a plot point of it - it's more underlying. I'd love to see them have a big ep together where they resolve things and Gibbs starts slapping Tony again *g*. It would totally restore my faith in the writers/producers and their sense of character continuity.

I used the metaphor of a clock's tick and tock being out of synch to describe Gibbs/Tony's current relationship in my most recent fic and I've discussed their dynamic with a couple of people. I agree it's subtle and could be underlying and at first I wondered whether it was new writers, a change in purpose or reason for the show (after all, the stats for the show have improved, I'm led to believe). Maybe it is. I don't know.

I really want their reltionship to improve. For me, it doesn't have to go back to what it was and I suppose the characters do need to evolve. It could be even better, but I would like it to get to a stage where Gibbs feels okay to give Tony a slap every now and then. Well, I can dream...

Oh Gibbs! Poor Tony.

I'm sure Gibb's words did something to alleviate Tony's concerns, but I'm worried that it stopped short of what he needed.

*sigh*

Do you think there will be more?

More slaps... honestly, I don't know. I know people have said that MW was tired of fans coming up to him and giving him Gibbs style treatment so asked for DiNozzo not to be slapped anymore and I can understand that. Whether it's true or not I don't know ( ... )
