I would go anywhere to get to you, so why is it that all you have to do is smile to get to me?
As I sit enjoying a pre-supper sherry, waiting for Jethro to finish showering, I wonder, as I do from time to time, if Jethro is aware of just how much I love him. Of just how important he is to me. Of just how far I would go for him. Of just what something as simple as his smile can do to me.
I find myself hoping he is aware, whilst at the same time hoping he isn't. I want him to know, because everyone should know how loved they are. And yet maybe it is better he doesn't know, in case it lowers his opinion of me.
After all, I gave up traveling around the world, I gave up hope of returning to my home country, I brought Mother all the way to the States when it became clear she could no longer live alone. And I did all that because of Jethro; because I wanted to be with him. And if for any reason he has to leave the States, then I would go with him. I would go anywhere and do anything for him. Oh, dear, that does make me sound rather weak and somewhat of a besotted fool, does it not? However, it is the truth.
And it is equally true that he can move me, he can touch me, he can brighten my entire day simply by smiling at me. He has a smile he reserves only for me; it always touches his eyes, it softens his face and tells me what I mean to him.
"Penny for them, Duck." I start slightly, as Jethro kisses my lips and his still damp hair brushes my cheek.
Should I tell him? Why not? "I was thinking about how much I love you."
He smiles; 'my' smile.

You don't need me or anyone else to make you special; you already are.
Of course I know how much Duck loves me; he tells me every day, and I don't mean just in words. I only hope he knows I love him just as much, if not more. He'd probably say that wasn't possible, but it is.
Duck's the best thing that has ever happened to me, well, since my girls were taken from me. Duck knows me, inside and out. He loves me for what I am and doesn't want to change me. And above all, Duck can always make me smile.
No matter how wound up I am, no matter what DiNozzo's done to piss me off, I know that if I go and see Duck, he'll find a way to make me smile. If only because being with him calms me down. He's special like that. He can calm me, move me, make me focus, without doing anything other than being himself. Being there. Looking at me. Calling me 'my dear Jethro'.
Duck just knows. Sometimes reckon he knows me better than I know myself. Told you he was special.
You can't stay mad at Duck, if you even get mad at him in the first place. You just can't. There's something about him that takes the anger from you and turns it around. I don't know how he does it, because a lot of times he doesn't do anything, he's just Ducky. It's not that he says to me 'Jethro, do calm down' or 'smile, my dear'; he doesn't. He just goes on being Ducky. My Ducky. My special Ducky.
"Hey, Duck?" I help him to his feet, pull him into my arms and brush my lips over his.
"My dear?"
"Have I told you how special you are?"
He flushes slightly and glances away from me.
I smile.
