It is raining.
They stand without noticing it.
"He wouldn't have known anything, Ducky. It was too quick."
"I know." Ducky does know. But it doesn't help. Nothing can.
He touches Jethro's cheek. It is wet.
He turns and walks away.
He knows it will never cease to rain.
He lets his tears begin to fall.
"Duck? Duck, what is it?" Jethro gathers him into his arms and holds him.
"Jethro?"
He touches Jethro's cheek. It is dry.
He lets himself be held. Held tightly.
He looks over Jethro's shoulder. Looks out into the early morning light.
It is raining.

The sun sets on another day.
Still they have not found him.
Still they have not brought him home to me.
Still I wait.
Wait for the day to come when he returns to me.
I know he will.
I would know if he were dead.
Most people, even the children, have given up hope. They no longer believe he will be found.
The sun has set forty-two times since the day he was taken from me.
I have watched each and every one of them.
And I will go on watching until he once again watches them with me.

Two things awaken me:
Daylight streaming through my window.
And his touch.
His voice.
His scent.
He is here.
He is in my room.
Pale.
Thin.
Drawn.
Shattered.
But he is here.
I do not ask how, why, what, when.
And he does not tell me.
None of that matters.
Not yet. Not now.
All that matters is he is returned to me.
He gathers me into his arms and holds me.
Holds me as the tears I could not shed before finally fall.
Holds me and tells me he loves me.
Holds me as daylight blazes into the room.
TITLE: My Favorite Time Of Day
AUTHOR: Ashleigh Anpilova
PAIRING: Leroy Jethro Gibbs/Donald 'Ducky' Mallard
GENRE: Slash
SUB-GENRE: Established Relationship. Fluff.
SUMMARY: Evening is Ducky's favorite time of the day.
RATING: PG
WORD COUNT: 100
DISCLAIMER: I don't own these characters, nor am I making any money from them. I merely borrow them from time to time.
Evening is my favorite time of the day, because it is when I finally have Jethro all to myself.
The day is behind us; cases are forgotten; the children are not clamoring for attention; no one is threatening us.
But most importantly: Jethro can allow his façade to drop.
He is not the cold, detached, uncaring, arrogant, irritable bastard he appears to be.
At least he is not with me.
With me he is warm, involved, caring, loving. Yes, he is still a little arrogant at times, a little irritable. But he is mine.
When evening comes, he is mine.
