So, we're a few weeks into the Carmelo Anthony trade. The Knicks got the big name player they wanted, the Nuggets got some exciting young players, everyone is happy (except, perhaps, Raymond Felton), now it's time to analyze.

Since the trade, the Nuggets have been on a pretty good roll, 10-4 since the trade compared to the Knicks 7-9. The Nuggets ( Read more... )

I didn't think there were a lot of people who thought that the Knicks made a smart move in bringing in Anthony at the price they paid.

They weren't winning a title as previously constructed, but unless they are on a run of bad luck, it's not likely they're going to win with the Billups-Anthony-Stoudmire core either.

The question really is if Amare's legs hold up long enough for Billups to get swapped out for what is supposed to be Chris Paul.

They gave up too much for a guy who didn't seem like he was signing an extension anywhere else anyways. Amare's a better player than anyone else Denver had, but they also have more depth, especially in the front court and on the defensive end, than what New York currently has around Melo/Billups. I'm not entirely surprised that New York has struggled, but I will say it's somewhat surprising how well Denver has played. Then again I've always been a fan of Chandler.

The problem lies in whether or not New York will have the cap space/assets to fill out the roster to be a contender, which was always my biggest gripe with giving up so much for Melo (who I was honestly never a HUGE fan of anyways). I don't see it happening.

Something with Denver post-trade. What this trade did for the Nuggets is gave them a versatile and deep rotation they can work from. While it won't make them a title contender, they do shape up to be a team that will give anyone a run for their money in the playoffs.

The one thing that I've noticed with Denver more than anything though is that for the first time in a while, it looks like George Karl actually wants to coach. If I'm the Knicks, that really should be a sign of buyers remorse.
