WHY I DID NOT LIKE THE TRUE BLOOD FINALE

Sep 14, 2010 02:18

I found myself deeply unimpressed with the season finale for True Blood, which is a shame because I always enjoy the finales for this series. But this one, well I guess it's a YMMV situation, depending on which character you care for. Overall, they got hosed and I'm heated about it because I was really looking forward to the episode after a week ( Read more... )

Oh, I fully agree that Godric has had major influenced throughout the season and my quibble is not with his being in the scene but the way in which they chose to do it rendering it fairly meaningless. Your point about how much better if would have been if they gave Eric a hallucination/drea earlier on and then tied it back to this is a good one, and I would have been completely satisfied with such a move. But this... it's just lazy writing that seems very much done for the sake of fanservice, with little forethought. But as I do love Eric, I will accept the interpretation that the ultimate play-out of the scene reflected the dichotomy between Eric's humanity and vampire, and the statement about the nature of his revenge being a very human desire ( ... )

OKAY, yeah, then we're on the same page.

I think True Blood is a FUN SHOW but I don't watch it because it's good quality. It's based off ROMANCE NOVELS, and like them or hate them, you're getting what you get out of that scenario. Many points throughout this season, I have thought it was terrible (largely the Tara handling). It was an overall weak season with some saving points (... Eric and Pam ...).

I mostly watch because I like that it's fucked up. But it's possible for shows to be fucked-up without screwing over their characters every way to Sunday. And yes, Eric, Pam and Russell have been my main highlights of the season, with Sookie occasionally managing to eke in there with some CMOA.

I agree so much about Sam. I'm not even against him having a dark side or a troubling past, but the way it's been handled it's like the character has just had a complete personality makeover that makes no sense. It feels completely random and ridiculous. He seemed like a psycho in this episode.

It just feels completely pasted-on and out of place for him. They didn't build up to it, and I don't see why having a crazy-ass brother would push out this side of him anymore than the other shit he's had to put up with, like the Big Bad of last season. It's crappy writing and I hate them for it. I hate them a lot.

Yeah, I agree with all of this. I...pretty much only liked the episode for Sookie, although the part where she was laughing maniacally? Was kind of creepy, I agree DD:. Mostly I was just pissed off at Sam's storyline. Sam is supposed to be a Nice Guy. I don't like that they randomly decided to make him a psycho killer.

Apparently Sam was not cool enough because he did not have UBER ISSUES like the rest of the cast and because he was not CRAZY VIOLENT at any given time. I'm reaaaaaaally sick of True Blood's obsession with pushing the boundaries. It's become sheer narcissism at this point, like Ball thinks he's so cool for doing this. I think True Blood's basic premise is boundary-pushing enough. He doesn't have to try out for the Marquis de Sade every other episode. :\

That's so true...I think he definitely took the boundary-pushing past the point where it was new and cool and into the tacky and squicky realm. I had such high hopes for this season too, but thinking about it, almost none of them were met :((

An Academy award-winning writer should know how to pen a script with some modicum of competence. That's all I have to say. I hope he ups his game next season and tries for actual characterization rather than LET'S SEE HOW MESSED UP I CAN BE.
