hate sent toward the RPer who admitted she didn't use the HMD meme because she didn't care what anyone else thought

REALLY, NOW?

In all fairness, as I mentioned above, she worded her opinion rather viciously and even referred to the HMDs as "ego-stroking" so I didn't begrudge them for calling her arrogant. What I did begrudge them for was acting like it was irresponsible to not want an outsider's opinion and to only consult with those you directly play with. I am with her. I do not think an outsider's critique is of much value in a game for amusement. It is not a job after all.

Yyyyeah, basically. You already know my opinion on concrit/HMDs and all that. I have nooo idea of the context behind this, if the player was asked to comment to HMD for specific reasons or if she was just arrogant because she could, buuut like you said, this is not a job. And if someone was really having issues with her playing, they could just PM/email/etc. :/a

Yes, I do. That's why so many of the responses got under my skin. People being pissed someone else didn't want outside input. As for context, RPS.

Yeah, it would be really nice if they fixed comment notifications. To me, most of LJ's recent screw-ups have seemed more bumbling than anything. It seems that they've been overreaching themselves lately or something -- each time they attempt to "fix" or update something, it breaks something else. It's almost comical at this point.

Also, lol re: HMD meme thingy. It reminds me of this online article I read about the fan reaction (specifically, the sense of fan entitlement) toward... I think it was to Chuck. Thoughtful critiques and the like can be helpful for keeping both a creator (or, in this case, RPer) and the watchers/readers/etc. on the ball, but in the end? THAT PERSON WHO IS ACTUALLY THE CREATOR/RPer/WHATEVER IS THE PERSON WHOSE OPINION MATTERS. And particularly for RP, it's not like we're trying to change the world or shape popular culture here. Reading the comments here, it seems like it was the sort of thing that was just asking for a strong reaction, but the idea that a person should subject themselves and their leisure ( ... )

Yeah, they keep having almost every day now. :(

And yeah it wasn't worded civilly at all, but the amount of "but just because they don't play with you doesn't mean their opinion is invalid" rubbed me the wrong way. Aside from their snarkiness, the person pretty much said if she doesn't play with a person, she doesn't care what they think about her RPing. And I... honestly don't see why this is a bad thing. How does it affect the people she doesn't play with? 0_o

Because we don't get any power from judging other people if our opinions don't matter to them, natch. 8|

I just don't get why so many are all vehement about OMG HOW DARE YOU SAY SOMEONE YOU DON'T PLAY WITH DOESN'T HAVE GOOD INPUT ON YOUR PLAY. I'm like "uh why do you care then and why should they?" We're not writing Nobel novels here or anything. And at this point, I'm pretty much at the point with I don't even care about OOCness if I don't interact with the chara or it's not hurting their cast/those they play with. I think people are for the most part as IC as they can be in the given situation so really you have to be fucking things up for other people for me to give a damn enough to raise issue about it.

I have since reached that point after several attempts to engage an actual discussion as to what was actually wrong with my play and how I might improve it. I am now with the secret-maker who doesn't care.
