Context 20 Highlights, Part 2 (Saturday), in which I meet Tim Powers

Oct 07, 2007 18:43

I couldn't sleep for more than five hours after the party on Friday night. The moment I noticed myself rising toward the surface of sleep, my mind gave a kick that pushed me all the way out. In other words, I woke up around 6 a.m. and thought over everything that had happened the day before, and then anticipated all of my plans for Saturday, ( Read more... )

Tim and Serena are two of the nicest people I've ever met.

Very nice indeed, with enough mischief worked in that they aren't overly earnest. That's what I like. :)

Great write-up of your con experience. I am interested in reading your assignment re your epiphany having read your first draft here.

I discovered there is a SF con here in Tucson in November that I will check out. I'm hopping Emma Bull and Will Shetterly will attend since they live here in Tucson.

Thanks! I'll post that epiphany paragraph soon, then.

Seeing Emma Bull and Will Shetterly would be nifty. I've read her War for the Oaks, and I've heard great things about Territory, so that's on my list. I haven't read any of Shetterly's stuff yet, but I'm sure I will sometime. He writes a lot of commentary on class and society in his Livejournal, so I'm curious about what his fiction is like.

I have just finished Territory and really liked it. It helps that I have been to Tombstone recently and have been reading about the events surrounding the "Fight at the OK Corral."
There is still a lot of controversy about Wyatt Earp and his character. She is working on a sequel.

I am interested in reading Shetterly's latest book. I have read some of his short works that were in a shared universe anthology several years ago.

For the record, I was the official bartender at the APEX party and was offering EVERYONE an abundance of drinks. Just didn’t want any rumors starting.... ; )

LOL. An important distinction, to be sure. No, people, Girard was *not* standing next to me with a pitcher of tequila! How do these things get started?! ;)

Thanks for posting your take on Saturday, and the link to the Tim Powers mailing list! I'd heard that it existed and had made a mental note to track it down, but who knows if I actually would have remembered. I knew nothing about Tim Powers prior to Context except that he was down with the Philip K Dick, and anybody in that category immediately gets my attention.

Oh, cool--I hope you enjoy the list! The discussions on it go all over the place, and it's fun to get some intel on what Powers is working on now and then. :)
