From the Incredibly Boring Channel: Advance Planning Gone Wild!

I just reserved a room for Wiscon, so that I can stay where the convention is being held and thus avoid driving back and forth at night if I want to go to parties. I'm way more likely to get to the early-morning events this way, too. Yep, I'm going to stay in a hotel that's a 25-minute drive from my house...

Makes sense to me. You can give your full attention to WisCon and experience it to the full. Wish I could be there.

It's not as unusual as you might think. Last time I went to Wiscon (9, 10 years ago?), I got a room even though I lived in Verona. The woman who shared the room with me lived up off of Northport Drive. Many of the fans I knew back then lived in Madison but got rooms. It's all about partying with the big dogs, baybee! (And getting a chance to have those great, long conversations instead of rushing home and hoping you'll meet up again tomorrow. And not being held up by the kids on your way out the door.)

I've done that (get a room for a local con). It's one of the joys of being a grownup: realizing that yes, it would be okay -- and then doing it.

BzdChris and I got a room on the square while we were living on East Dayton, with in sight of the capitol. It's about your life, and making it work the best you can. And of course, if those parties are lame, you can call us and party with us!
