and oh navypal, if you dont want to bother with building pc, i remember seeing the acer mini pc along with a 17" lcd monitor going for $999 at courts. of cos the ram and hdd in the pc is the bare minimal..

thats plenty of info and they are informative for noobs like myself. I want a computer that is able to handle my heavy use of photoshop ..... many have adviced the increase of RAM

It shows 768Mb Ram because you only 1gb ram recognised and used, of which 256mb have been allocated to video memory. (1025 - 256 = 768mb)

If you remember you once had 2gb of ram,

it's most likely either

4 X 256mb ram modules,
- 2 of your memory modules are spoilt, or have come loose

or 2 X 1GB ram modules
- 1 of the memory modules is spoilt, or have come loose

I suspect that one of the ram may have come loose or is defective as suggested by ya, when the time permits, will check more thouroughly. appreciate the thoughts
