Okay here's what happened:

Ack. :( That sucks. Law of the Universe though, I'm afraid - entropy. Nice things tend to get broken eventually.

And anyway, if you didn't have kids, you couldn't be my favourite MILF!

Ah, I see now. One thing, however, is absolutely not clear with you: It is NOT your fault. If Anna can be trusted to put away the dishes, she should be able to NOT break treasured items. It is, as you said, thoughtless. Having said that, we have experienced the same thing with Alex, who has broken her Dad's favorite beer mug, several wine glasses, and chipped most of our plates and red ceramic pots. None of this is my fault. It is HERS because she slams them around-- the same issues, she doesn't want to put away the dishes, which is one of three measly little chores for which this 17 year old gets paid $20.00 (yes, TWENTY DOLLARS) a week. Well, I should say used to because since she has become so crappy at doing her chores, we have not been paying her. At all. Anyway, the worst was when we came home one evening after having trusted her by herself for a few crummy hours and found her sitting on the living room floor picking up the pieces of my antique ruby glass bowl, the one that sat on the coffee table and cannot be replaced ( ... )
