Summary: Rose felt grateful that she could keep her promise and give the Doctor the forever she once promised him.

Two days ago the Doctor announced they would travel over the weekend to camp. Rose had never camped before, well at least she’d never had fun camping, so she got really excited at the prospect. Knowing the Doctor, he'd find the most exciting place to camp and they'd have a lot of fun and, if they were lucky, get into a little trouble in between.

Words could describe her disappoint when, after a five hours of driving, he brought her to the middle of nowhere, where she could only see the stars and nothing more exciting. Wonderful.

Rose wondered if the Doctor had lost his sense of adventure when he got into this universe.

“So, why are we here?” Rose asked the Doctor. She observed him setting up the telescope he had brought. She could imagine why they were there, judging from the blanket on the ground and the equipment he brought. Probably, he borrowed them from Torchwood’s Department of Astronomy.

“The best way, at least nowadays, to stargaze is going to some place that doesn't have big cities full of bright lights,” he explained. “We have to go into the country.”

Well, that explains why we're in the middle of nowhere, Rose thought.

“So, what are you waiting to see?” she asked, curious. He probably wanted to show her something amazing like a meteor shower or a comet.

“Pluto,” he said, beaming at her.

“Pluto?” she repeated, skeptical.

“Yep. Pluto can only be seen a few minutes before the sunrise. We'll have to spend the whole night awake to wait for it,” he said with a satisfied grin.

“You drove for five hours to camp here just to see Pluto?”

He gave her a pretentious smile and shrugged.

“I may try to seduce you.”

Rose giggled and took a step closer to him. Their bodies were close enough for Rose to bend toward him and murmur against his ear.

“Do you think I am seducible?” she asked. She smiled mischievously when she felt him shiver slightly. Rose loved to tease him; that was the best part of knowing him so well. She waited for a few seconds before he put his arms around her and closed the gap between them. The Doctor tugged gently on her hair, tilting her head to fit his mouth on her neck. He scattered open mouthed kisses until he found her ear.

“I know you're very seducible,” he replied and bit her earlobe. Rose moaned and slid her hands into his hair, making fists and pulling his face closer, his arms squeezing her tightly. She loved when he did that, how warm his body felt against hers and the sensation of belonging that washed over her, the certainty that they fit perfectly like this.

“Come on, let's lie down a little,” he said, pulling her down to the ground with him and snuggling close to her.

Rose felt his hand sliding into her hair, his fingertips brushing her scalp gently, while his other hand took hers in his and interlaced their fingers together.

She smiled when, after a minute or two of silence, the Doctor started to babble about the Greeks and their wonderful development of astronomy so early on in human history.

Some things never change, Rose thought.

Once, Rose thought she could never love this Doctor like she loved the other him who lived a parallel world away. In these days, she knew better.

Rose learned that she could love every version of the Doctor. Her heart was big enough to fit him and all the good and the bad things that came with him within itself. She knew she'd never stop thinking about or loving the other Doctor. She'd also never forgive him for leaving her without a goodbye. She finally understood what he told her once about the only adventure he could never have. She knew now that the full Time Lord was too important to be just hers, no matter how much they craved for it to happen. That's why Rose would always be grateful that the Doctor had given her a part of himself that would always be hers, only hers.

“Rose?” he called her. “Are you listening to me?”

She looked at him and laughed.

“Always, Doctor. Always.”

He looked at her doubtfully, but let it go.

He knows better than that, she thought.

Later, together, laying on the ground, curled up next each other, after the sex, Pluto, and the sunrise, Rose felt grateful that she could keep her promise and give the Doctor the forever she once promised him.
