Mosquito & tick repellent

Every year I run into the same dilemma:  how to keep the noxious insects away without wallowing in toxic chemicals, If I am outside working in a particular location I can use a citronella lantern, but I am usually moving around from one place to another. The plants themselves tend to be less irritant than their oils - maybe you could try making a spray by infusion...?

eat garlic every day. Skin So Soft does work; if you're just worried about ticks & chiggers, put it around your ankles.

Mosquitoes can't handle wind very well and they don't fly fast, so if you keep walking they'll have a hard time catching you. They track the CO2 from your breath, so perhaps keeping a fan around might help?

They make bandannas that are supposedly repellent. not natural, but perhaps safe since you don't have to smear the repellent on yourself? I have no idea if they work well or not though...I've just noticed them at LL Bean I think it was.

Shoo tag makes various bug repellants for humans, dogs, cats, and horses. It takes a few days for it to build up. Even though it does not kill them, it does repel them.
