Diarrhea treatment?

Jul 22, 2011 09:55

Hi all!

Can you recommend some natural methods of dealing with diarrhea? I've been experiencing it for four days now, and Immodium and Pepto Bismol haven't helped at all. I know at this point I should see a doctor but unfortunately I can't get to one until Monday, if then, and I also don't think there is much they can do. Antibiotics would screw up ( Read more... )

Eat 3-4 roasted peanuts a day with the shell on.

Yeah, with the shell still on. It actually tastes like, and has the chew consistency of peanut flavored shredded wheat.

Incredible amount of fiber in those shells. Just pop the whole peanut in and chew it up.

They taste better slightly salted.

Either that, or an opiate of some type.

I must be dehydrated or something- how could I forget to add fiber to my diet?!

Shelled peanuts, though. That's going to be tough but I can give it a try, haha. Thank you for the suggestion! :)

BRAT diet. Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast (or Tea). Preferably white for the rice and toast, whole grains = fiber = might make you poop more, I think.

Peel and grate an apple, let it go brown, eat.

When you say grate... you mean like cheese, right?

Yup - you use something like this. You can also add a teaspoon of real cinnamon (powdered) - it makes the yummiest medicine imaginable. :]

The cinnamon can be drunk as tea as well (I see you say fruit doesn't sit well with you). Just let it seep in about 2 cups of boiling water for minimum ten minutes. This you can take hot or cold, as you prefer.

I got salmonella in China and had diarrhea for well over 5 days - it was so bad that I couldn't sleep. Unfortunately for me the only thing that helped was antibiotics. Nothing else - pepto, herbal medicines, immodium, drinking tea, etc helped. I couldn't even keep down fruit because it was so bad.
