I've been sick  with a flu for about 10 days now. The fever has burned off and I've calmed down the sinitus with regular nasal rinse but I can't seem to get rid of the runny nose.  The rinses stop the runny nose for about an hour before it starts right back up again like clockwork. I'm starting to feel like a snot machine and the skin around my ( Read more... )

I always take these when I have a sinus infection:

It's the same herb that's a part of the breathe-easy tea.
I had them recommended to me by an acupuncturist, i took them for a few days, assumed I was getting better as the infection ran its course, so I stopped taking them and the next day woke up feeling TERRIBLE. That was my self-study reason to believe it works for me.

I don't know what eating style you subscribe to but I'd suggest some bone broth (just get a whole chicken and boil it for a few hours and if you have more energy pick the chicken off the bones, throw it back in the broth with onions, garlic, carrots and celery.. otherwise just drink the broth) and fermented foods. I know the big chain Whole Foods carries Bubbies brand pickles and sauerkraut. You could add some of the juice to your broth if you don't like the taste.

Fermented food, really? What is it about them that helps with decongesting?

Sorry I didn't mean for decongesting, I meant for helping you feel better faster all over.. haha. I'm still waiting for my afternoon caffeine to kick in..

Chicken soup has actually been found in studies to be more effective than over-the-counter cold and flu medicine. It's good stuff!

Are you using a neti pot? Adding 2 - 3 drops of GSE (grapefruit seed extract) will kick any sinus issues very quickly. I have reoccuring sinus troubles and taking GSE both orally and using it in my neti pot is a magical combination.

I don't know about a cold but I"ve found nettle tea very good for allergies and helps pretty soon after I drink a strong cup(or pot) of it. Could help with decongesting, and it's full of minerals so couldn't hurt!
