I would highly recommend eyelash extensions - they are long-wearing and look wonderful - and they are of a synthetic material that I've never had a reaction to.
I knew that there are cheap falso lashes made from human hair. Honestly, it's not the lashes themselves I would be concerned with, it's the adhesive. I've never had a reaction myself but that stuff can't be good for you.

Ditto. I've used some good lashes from Mac for about ten years, with really cheap glue from Sally's and never had a reaction, in spite of having really sensitive eyes, but I highly doubt it is at all natural.
How about some kind of gum arabic or something? I honestly have no clue :/
As far as the extensions someone else suggested, I have a friend that swears by them, but she's constantly having trouble with them getting caught up in her contacts. They look nice, but since they fall out along with your own lashes, there is a high upkeep cost to get them replaced every couple of weeks.
Off topic, but yesterday I had a blast with a friend painting things on my face with latex. It looked so cool! Now I wish she would have put some on my eyelashes to see what it looked like.
