Vermicomposting

I want to start composting with worms... I bought the supplies to build the box, got home and started drilling air holes and then realized I got a clear box. Apparently worms like it dark. Should I just buy a new box or will a clear box be okay?

Thanks for input!!!

Cover it with paper or paint the outside with dark colored paint.

I bet it will be ok...they just won't want to be on the surface, so make sure you give them lots of bedding so they can burrow.

actually this may be a good thing depending on your locale. i did a unit on vermi composting at a summer camp one year and was chasing escapee worms all summer. my box was opaque and dark. in the desert here it is very hot and dry and it took a lot to keep their compost moist. i wonder if it had been clear if it would have made the vent holes less appealing.

you can always paint it if it fails.

also thumbs up for vermiposting. if i could control my homes temperature i'd be so all about it once we get a garden going. i just don't think those guys are into the whole desert southwest action. i may give it a try again just cause.
