Makeup

So, I need new makeup. As with all other things "natural" or "organic," like cleaners, etc, I'm buying them as I go, and as I need them. Unfortunately, I need lots right now because we're moving into a new house, so I bought a lot of organic cleaners, etc ( Read more... )

Everyday Minerals is a great natural mineral makeup without additives and it's vegan (if that's important to you). They do everything but mascara.

Thanks! It doesn't look like they have foundation (liquid), and I'm reluctant to do the powder thing, although I might try it.

The blush alone, though, looks great - and it's much lower on the cosmeticsdatabase scale, so next time, I'll do that one for blush!

Gotta tell ya, I am soooooo much happier with the powder foundation. It looks way more natural and gives me a very smooth texture. They have different formulas, so if it's a more opaque coverage that's your concern, they have all their foundation colors in an Intensive formula. There is also a wet application method for all the powder makeup that works really well for me, and it's practically foolproof.

They have free samples, too. Try the "Try Me" button on the home page. You can use it to find your foundation color and to try blushes or eyeshadows for free. The sample sizes are really generous.

(I swear I don't work for them, I'm just a happy customer.) :D

I know SO many people who love the mineral makeup...I just haven't taken the plunge yet. Stubborn? Just so used to liquid foundation? I don't know...I do think I'll do the "Try Me" to check it out.

I won't need makeup for a long time, but I'm going to save all of these responses in my email for when I do!

I adore Hugo Naturals Mexican Lime and Bergamot deodorant; it smells like Key Lime pie to me.

I just ordered some in the other browser window! I was searching on Cosmetics Database and they got low scores, so I was going to go ahead and give those a shot! I love Tom's of Maine EVERYTHING, honestly.

Be careful--a LOT of people have reactions to their deodorant, from what I've seen posted here.

Yeah, it definitely didn't work for me. I am making my own now and much happier with it.

I use Physician's Formula eyeliner and it's awesome--it's a little pencil type deal, but it goes on really smoothly. It was only about $5 at Target.

I second this and every good thing said about Everyday Minerals. PF eyeliner has been truly much better than I expected. Also, if you want to go low on that list for mascara, check out Almay's stuff.

You may come to find that you like the powder foundation better than liquid. I sure do!

Stay away from stuff like bismuth oxychloride and talc. Bad for the skin.

I make mineral makeup.. over at http://www.sweetlibertine.com . Essentially, to get a natural eyeliner, you use the eyeshadow as liner - and it works great. Get an eyeliner brush, get it wet, dip it in the powder, and apply.

Let me know if you have any other questions regarding makeup, etc.

So - for example, I could wet the brush, dip it in black eye shadow, and run it along my eyelid (closer to the eye than the lashes - not on the outside of the lashes)? I'm sorry if that sounds dumb - I've never used eyeliner that wasn't in pencil form before!

Oooh, believe me, a question like this is not "dumb" :-D You should hear some of the questions I get! There's a huge difference between "dumb" and "inexperienced" - and when you're inexperienced, questions are GOOD.

And you're pretty much on target there. But, I wouldn't put it along the inside of the eye - you should really not put any eyeliner there, just because it will get in the eye and irritate it. Apply it, give it a second (almost literally) to dry, and then get a q-tip or smudge brush and blend it in a bit.

I swirl the water and powder together with the brush (perhaps in the lid of the makeup jar or on a teacup saucer or something) to get the right consistency and then just draw it on just like you would with a pencil, only it applies much smoother and without tugging on your skin.
