I was a Student Conservation Association volunteer in high school (spent a summer building trails in a national forest), and it was a fantastic experience--and I actually ended up becoming an energy lawyer, which I trace fairly directly to that early experience. They are a fantastic organization.
I think one thing you can do if you're already in a certain field is find out how you can make your job a green (or greener) job. We're going to need environmentally responsible people in all fields, you know? Also, here in MA there's been a lot of planning going into turning technical colleges and even vocational high schools into training bases for these green jobs.
I agree with this. The fact that the general public feels they need to make some huge changes to the way they live (read: new career) is why it's so difficult to get the message across to some. Make your current job greener and that will not only make a difference for you, but the next person that occupies your position.

It's doesn't razz me, as I agree. I just don't have a job currently, nothing to turn green. I'm a SAHM who's wanting to get back into the working world because we're barely squeaking by in this economy. I want to be trained in something new/different/green.
