Wintertime Vegetarian "Suet"
The birds won't miss the meat and your kitties will love to watch the action!
2 cups peanut butter
2 cups vegetable shortening
2 cups flour
6 cups cornmeal
Melt peanut butter and shortening in a large pot.
Stir in flour and cornmeal.
Turn dough onto a waxed paper lined 13x9" pan.
Cut into rectangles for use in a suet feeder.
Suet can be stored in a freezer.

we used to make something similar to this when i was in girl scouts, years and years ago and i always remember it never lasted too long.

I would look up plants local to your area that make seeds. This is much more healthy for the birds and promotes the health of local bird species, rather than invasives.

The suet itself you'll need to buy, since only cattle make suet. However, you can melt it and mix in seeds and make suet cakes. I don't have a recipe, but I've done it with leftover fat from cooking, including bacon fat.
