Quorn (mycoprotein meat substitute)

Oct 12, 2008 14:52

My roommate brought home a box of frozen Quorn "chicken" cutlets. I tend to stay away from fake meat because semi meat flavored processed soy kind of freaks me out. Quorn isn't soy, but derived from fungus, and thus has me somewhat intrigued. What are you opinions of this product if you've tried it?

Ditto. I was always a fan of fake-tasting chicken, so the Quorn stuff has been a perfect substitute.

i love quorn. you can do more with it than other meat substitutes, like treat it like meat; grill it, put it in salads, pastas, flavor it, season it, bread it, and on and on. and their meatballs are great too for pastas.

Another fan here! I like them better than Morningstar and such, the mushrooms give it a richer flavor. I haven't eaten chicken recently enough to compare it to real meat.

my coop's nutritionist says that anything that you cannot produce in your kitchen is probably highly processed and there fore, lacking a lot of the nutritional value it would have otherwise held as a whole-food.

i dont trust quorn based on this theology but Im not interested enough in it to look any further either. i suggest you inquire a nutritionist on this subject.... :D

I've enjoyed all the Quorn products EXCEPT the "crumbles" which made me really sick both times I ate them. My mom had the same reaction. Might avoid those...

Ditto on the crumbles. I love Quorn, but there was something funky about those.
