Dressing for a sunburn

I have a first degree sunburn, and I mixed up some aloe vera and calendula oil, which has always worked well for me, but I was wondering if anyone had any bright ideas for how to dress it. Usually I just rub it in, but it occurred to me it would probably heal fast/feel better if I somehow found a way to make a sort of hydrogel dressing out of it. ( Read more... )

How big is the area? I'd apply your aloe vera/calendula mixture and then just get some gauze pads and medical tape and put it over the area. Of course, you don't want to tape over the burn (ow..) so you need to make sure the gauze is big enough...

A friend of mine made a dressing that he could wear while surfing after he had a very minor surgery done on his arm. He cut a piece of thick white plastic trash bag and placed it over a gauze pad. Then he used waterproof medical tape around the edges.

Apple cider vinegar is often used for sunburn as well as oatmeal baths.

However, I really don't think dressings are necessary for sunburn.

If you do insist, just put on aloe vera gel and a gauze with some paper tape, try to get the most low absorbent gauze as you don't want it to absorb the aloe vera.

Raw honey and gauze also works really well.

You can also get clear adhesive dressings which are wearable under clothes, waterproof and allow the skin to breath.
