Diaper rash

Jan 27, 2006 14:44

My toddler is sick and his poor bottom is getting raw. Years ago I used A and D ointment for diaper rash. It worked well but I'm not sure what impact it has on the environment or what it's made of. Is there anything better/more natural that you can recommend?

burts bees stuff works well. most coops or natural food stores have a few alternatives to the desitin-type product. you might also try feeding your baby some yogurt with live cultures, as that will help stabilize their digestive system. if you do that, look for the baby-yogurt, or the yogurt that has less or no sugars added. yoplait, and others like it, has so much sugar that it provides no benefits.

I like the Burts Bees products I've used, though they can be a little spendy. Thanks for the yogurt tip. he eats whole milk plain yogurt--I didn't know that helped with the rash.

Weleda Calendula Baby Cream is wonderful stuff. It is all natural, no petroleum and very soothing.

I get it at Whole Foods but am sure there are other places it is available.

yogurt on the skin. it needs to be the kind iwth no sugar or fruit and with live culture in it. he can eat it to but it also heals the skin good.

I generally use quick soaks in plain lukewarm water for my son's rashes and they clear up really fast. I also believe its more comfortable for him to urinate in water when he is all irritated than to do so otherwise.
