Anyone just ever have a really bad natural day?  I'm transitioning and am 10 months into it, and today I did a stretched braid out on dry hair.  But the humidity in NYC is 66% and within 3 hours, the waves had pretty much fallen.  By 4 pm, I looked like a hot mess and was avoiding mirrors.  Worse, I had to go to a reception before I left school.  : ( Read more... )

oh yes indeed. i feel your pain. there are days when nothing but a headscarf grabbed at the dollar store has stood between me and an overemotional meltdown.....

(other days i just laugh and am not bothered at all -- go figure!)

My days are mostly bad but that's because I don't put a lot of time into it. But on the days I DO, it starts off looking lovely. But I watch as it gets frizzier and frizzier as the day goes on. And I'm just like... what.

So I feel your pain.

I'm in NYC too. Summer here is not a good time to try and make a cute braid or twist out happen. I do almost exclusively puffs and simple updos. If you want those other styles to hold and don't mind crunch, try gel.

Oh and I'm 17 years natural and 3 years loose natural. The longer your hair gets, the easier it will be to remedy a bad hair day!

I definitely did this today. I twisted most of it up on the top of my head and used gel and hairspray to keep the curled ends in line. It totally worked.

if it's been 10 months, may I ask why you're still hanging on to the relaxed ends? i'm not judging at all. most natural people have varied hair textures anyway, but I can only imagine that having relaxed ends makes life more dramatic.

They do. I want to cut them off; there's just a little hesitation keeping me back from it because I originally said I would go to 1 year. But I think I will get them cut off soon.

I've been natural 10 years and I'm from Chicago. It gets super humid here, so I definitely recommend wash and go's if your hair is short enough, roller sets, or even a cute protective style like a side plait or even cornrows. Best of all, make sure you stay conditioned and do what works for YOUR hair. Best.

I have to get the relaxer cut off before I do the wash and gos, but that's a definite incentive to get it chopped. The worse it gets the more I'm just like ugh, chop it off. Today I flat twisted most of it to my head and I like it a lot more. Thanks :D
