Sounds pretty normal. My labor was stop and start for nearly 2 days before I hit transition and finally birthed my son.
Tell her to get as much rest as possible, make sure she is well nourished - a good meal can give her the strength to continue progressing, and then do some walking when she's rested.
If her water hasn't broken, and she has a male partner, sex (with orgasm for both) can help. Walking as much as possible. Even nipple stimulation (manual or a pump).
I'd just rest as much as possible and eat if she's hungry, personally.
I'm not sure when this all went down, but when it comes to labor, I think having a good, solid, dependable font of advice on-hand or easily accessible is a good idea. A friend asking LJ for help is not quite up to that level. In all good conscience, I couldn't possibly give your friend any advice at this point, because I'm not there, heck, you're not even there, and I'd hate for some misinterpretation of condition or advice to result in something horrible. I do wish your friend and her baby all the best of luck, though.
