Irish Presidential Preferences 2011

Pick a preference, any preference? We're just over a week from the Irish Presidential Election 2011 and it's all still to play for. However I have no doubt you're all desperately wondering who I'm going to vote for and, if not, I'm going to tell you anyway ( Read more... )

So let me get this straight, the black mark of "probably, nudge nudge wink wink better not get either of us done for libel here" murdering people can be eventually expunged from a persons record but the black mark of being a member of a legal political party that at least a million people voted for last GE is less forgiveable? I find that frankly preposterous. I mean Lemass was a great Taoiseach (except for his patronage of CJH ( ... )

I think that here are multiple instances, and we have to allow for those instances, of people doing things in their past and then going to greater and better things in their future. I think that we live in a country where this has happened before and that we will likely see it happen again around the world. I'm not trying to convince you of anything, but I don't think that saying "no, never" would build a better world.

And I dislike Sean Gallagher for more than just his FF past, it's his unknown future and lack of idea of what the job is about.

On Dana, it's not that she is or has been a member of the RCC, nor would I disbar someone from anything for same, not at all. It's that she's an extreme fundamentalist, she openly speaks up for and encourages rapists, abusers and incites people to murder, by inaction, innocents. She is a dangerous person with dangerous beliefs and so yes, I rate her below. Your mileage may vary.

Lack of idea what the job is about applies to them all based on what they've been saying with the exception of MDH and GM. MmG has been spouting on about job creation as well and he also has an unknown future. In fact, funny thing about the future, it's unknown to everyone.

I'd be a lot more worried about the guns and bombs being back than I am about the gombeenism of FF being back. I just find that we are determined to hold SG up to a higher standard than a guy who supported blowing people up to be ludicrous.

oh yeah, another thing, SG is using the Barack Obama school of electioneering, tell 'em what they want to hear "Jobs, Jobs, enterprise etc". McAleese's presidency was defined by the biggest issue facing Ireland at the time ie Northern Ireland, even though she had no actual powers. The next president will be defined by the economy even if they have no actual legislative power.
