Tam Lin Triptych, as of this morning. Seeing it so tiny makes many of the blotches and un-smooth parts go away. Each of the three segments is 16 x 20, the whole thing is almost four feet long.
I don't do commissions. This isn't particularly "for something," it's just a picture that's been in my head for a couple years. I tried sketching it several times, and finally got a layout that I liked. I have always wanted to finish a triptych (I've started many), and the sketch seemed 'right' for it. It's based on the ballad of Tam Lin.
There will be prints, though I'm not sure what format they'll be. Most likely, I'll make separate prints of each segment and mat them separately. Probably just 8x10 prints.
It's watercolors, so far. Hundreds and hundreds of layers of transparent watercolors. I will also be going back in with guache and picking some highlights back out and adding texture to the fabrics.
Part of me wishes I'd just done it in acrylics, because once watercolors get this thick, they start to look chalky. I had planned on switching to egg tempra after the watercolor underpainting, but found the egg too much work. :(

And each time I see it I wonder: Is it a commission for "for something" or based on something? And will there be prints available eventually?
Because this is one I really love to see everyday on my wall.
It is gorgeous!
Just wondering,
