I won't be watching The Night Manager yet because I am currently halfway through watching House M.D. for the first time and don't want to "get my Hugh Lauries confused," but thanks for the rec -- I'll watch TNM eventually.

And wishing you the best with that consult and treatment!

Mmmm - I enjoyed The Night Manager, mostly because Tom Hiddlestone is so pretty and watchable. It's a great cast too, and the whole thing is classy - was it me or was it a bit on the slow side? I watch almost zero telly these days, and I'm never sure if it isn't just me when the pace of something seems off.

OK. I watched The Night Manager. And my main reaction was :

WHY IS IT NOT NEXT WEEK YET???

That was brilliant. SO Le Carre. So complicated and decent and heartbreaking already. And an inspired idea to update the setting to the Arab Spring. And Olivia Colman as a downtrodden but honorable spy with no heating! It's not often that I watch the first episode of something and am pretty sure I will be buying the DVDs.

Really hope that your consultant appointment works out well and they manage to sort something constructive on the medication front (and that you get to watch The Night Manager promptly: you can at least record it, right?)

Olivia Colman in retrospect is possibly my favourite thing - not only is she a woman, she's also the only Brit we've seen who isn't Home Counties/RP/upper-middle class. Just how many glass ceilings did she have to break through to get where she is?!

(And OF COURSE she gets treated like shit by TPTB! Apparently Le Carre said the problem with James Bond was the lack of politics - never having to to fight for permission from his own side to Do The Right Thing - whereas this really shows that, the way the alphaneumeric brigade fight for power as much between themselves as internationally etc)

Unfortunately, I don't have a DVR and if I'm staying with Mum and Dad in the aftermath - Mum as my carer will have to take me to Westminster - apparently Dad hated it and won't be watching again. :(

But thanks for the good wishes - I'm touching wood, crossing things and praying!
