One of my pet peeves in my life is that T-shirts are always too tight from the neckline and my jeans always get holes to the crotch. This spring I finally got fed up with the pile of mend-when-you-have-time clothes and today I sat in front of my sewing machine and started to do something about them.
Here's what I did with them:
First, my jeans... gaping holes in my crotches is one of the reasons I have so many "homely" pairs of jeans... Other reason is the ripped hems....
Thanks to my sewing/handicraft teacher in middle school and
this amazing blog I found the other day I managed to mend my jeans just fines.
I had a 2 pair of jeans to mend and other pair I cut to shorts some time ago. I decided to do little tricks with the hems too.. One pair I just tidied up a little, one pair I made into capri-jeans and the shorts I mend a little so they won't fray.
I'm so darn proud of myself....
Then I have these T-shirts. The neckline is always too tight for me. Unless I get a boat-cut or V-cut neckline t-shirts I usually end up throwing the t-shirt somewhere in the darkest pit of my wardrobe or making something else of it. This time though I wanted to actually use the shirts, so a little tuning up was in order.
Here's what I started with
The black one is one and the same, I just wanted to keep the wording untouched so I showed you what I started with.
I also had a white t-shirt with text on it, that I got from my sister when I was expecting my son, but I forgot to photo it before starting with it.
I've always wanted a top that leaves other shoulder bare, but has that strap over it... I decided to make two of them
I think they turned out fine. Red one I made few mistakes but in the end I like them both very much. I even managed to keep the picture on the back in there, though I almost lost my faith at one point.
The word in there is Finnish and means "The Beat". There's more about that in
here.
I made top out of the white t-shirt. I wasn't so happy with that one, but it's usable...
I also had a wrap-skirt that had been waiting me to do something about it for some time... nearer a year I think. It was too small for me (due gaining some weight) so I cut it in half and made minis-wrap-skirt... That was fun, trying to figure out... But in the end it seems good too. And I used the sleeves of my old and small cardigan for new legwarmers.
I think that about sums up my day... ^^ Well, at least in world of crafts.
Yaknow... what I'm most affected by is how little this thing actually cost me. Yes, I've bought few of the items anew, but they have been waiting for me at least a year if not more and I've used them all at some point. The skirt for example was my favorite in the tender years of late teens (when I met my Darling)...
But let's see what brings me to my sewing machine next time.
