I want to know something I can figure out

Now, I'm reading a book, The Private Life of Chairman Mao. This book was written by Dr. Li Zhisui, who was the Chinese ruler's personal physician. It's difficult to read because many persons appeared and many things were occurred. That's quite normal on historical issues though, I can't get used to tell many Chinese names apart... (I also guess it' ( Read more... )

I don't think you are crazy. I have also many times wondered how the people like any others could become such evil, lost their humanity. It's just... inconceivable to me. How the family men could be leaving every day their home, smiling to their wives and children, and go killing hundreds people daily? (I mean not only SS soldiers.) How could such animal's and children's lover like Hitler murdered so many innocent kids, their mothers, siblings and fathers? He was an artist, did you know? He painted so many beautiful paintings...

Stalin. Did anyone get to know him? It was very difficult, considering that people around him tended to "disappear"... How could anyone treat people like toys, like pawns?! "You disagree with me? Oh..." and next day you were taken into incredibly cold Siberia.

I think it's important to care about people like they. To prevent us from next mad dictators. If it's possible.

Don't worry, I also do that from time to time.
I feel glad we can share this feeling. Thank you for a frank comment.

I know one person has many sides. Even Hitler had gentle and delicate feelings... So I get complicated and wonder why as you do.
A battle always makes enemies for you. But as you said, they are also humans, who have their families and friends.

I haven't found an understandable answer yet. I'm going to keep on finding it.

If you were crazy, I might very well be crazy with you too. In almost every great country, there has been such a leader. Everyone hates them and detests them, but how many people actually try to find out why they're like that? Like you, I feel that there is a reasoning behind is, and I want to know why too.

In Hitler's case, he was driven by his loyalty to Germany and what he saw as unfair to his country.
However... did you know that Hitler has attempted to enrol in an arts school as a youth? He wanted to be a painter. The key factor here was what led him astray. Thoughts?

Yes, I agree with you. Each great country has such a leader as if that is one of the inevitabilities of history. Now that there is this fact, can't I fix upon they are totally evil persons? But I can't accept disasters occurred by them as justice.

I guessed he had great sensibility, so he felt too much irrationalities and lost balance.
I found every ruler seemed to be quite lonely and he couldn't believe the others even his wife or children. That looks actually a sad life even if s/he creates huge prosperity.

Of course, of course. Every person would try to justify their actions, regardless of what they had done, just so that they would not "look like the bad guy".

Lonely rulers huh. Hmm. Their personal life was definitely something very empty and lacking, and like in the cases of Stalin he would kill even his family to get what he wanted. Sometimes, it's so hard to determine if a ruler brought success or disaster just by looking at their actions, especially when they have both helped and crippled their nations.

It's not crazy at all. It would be interesting to see what sorts of things are running through the heads of people like that, what makes them tick. Not to mention it could be very useful as far as preventing it in the future if there was some sort of way to see what's causing them to act the way they do.

It's actually interesting because their words in private go far beyond my imagination now and then. (So I can't get them though)
The book I'm reading now is written something like that about Mao Zedong.
