"Deep shit" never implied anything less than trouble. Unless you were a zookeeper in need of assistance but that wasn't the point. Rather than walk and chance getting lost on his way to his brother's home, he hailed a cab, and let them do the driving. The whole way, the little Italian worried at the wooden beads of the rosary around his neck, praying his brother was all right. Him and his grandpa were the only family he had, he couldn't stand the idea of losing either.
The cab pulled to a stop in front of the apartment building (or as close as it could get with the firetruck and confusion), and he hopped out as soon as he could, not even bothering to tell the man to leave the meter running or anything, too caught up in his search for his brother. "About time.." he huffed and tried to push himself up the wall to stand, not caring when he felt the back of his shirt hang in the brick. "I, uh, fell... down the stairs! Getting away from the fire..." he pointed with his thumb in the general direction of the apartment building. "That's my apartment...was my apartment, I mean."
He held his head with the unbroken arm, wincing at all the pain coursing through his body. A little trickle of blood dripped from the corner of his mouth.

"Lovino, I don't think it was the stairs, not unless you fell down every flight of them. No one hacks up blood from a few stairs," the younger said as he approached in a hurry, wiping the blood from his brother's face with a tissue (when had he left that in his pocket? He couldn't remember but was glad he had) and trying to help him off the wall. He could believe breaking an arm from falling down the stairs, but blood from the mouth? "Come on, let's go, I've got a cab waiting and he'll get us to the hospital in no time."
Not that he didn't love his brother, because he did, but the sight of that broken arm was a bit more than he could stomach at the moment. He was doing his best to pretend he didn't see it.

"Urk... w-well.." He saw right through me..ugh. "I'll... I'll tell you what happened when we get there, but the Hospital is getting the 'stairs' story." He asserted. He didn't want those complete strangers to know his personal business.
