Question for: Any country with a Latin based language and/or who is predominately Catholic(or has a high level of Catholics).
Question: Gregorian chants are so prettyand relaxing(and yet creepy sometimes). Do you enjoy them? Do you or can you sing them? Any other comments on them?

Very much. The chants are musically quite simplistic, yet hauntingly beautiful; each is composed in free rhythm with an archaic tonal structure, entirely in unison and without accompaniment. Aesthetics are auxiliary to prayer: singing them is a meditative experience, allowing one to reflect on the words of the scripture. Latin is limited in its use in the Church in this day; the tradition is primarily maintained through music. Little is more Catholic than Gregorian chants.

A group of my own from the historic abbey Stift Heiligenkreuz recently won a recording contract with their stirring audition, which you may listen to here.

Well--that's somethin' I was not expecting.

My brother made sure I knew my share of the Catholic religion and it stood that way for well, quite some time even after I separated. Yet today--not so much due to the religion being that shared named amongst the higher class that fled when things started to change. Still, I don't think I'd be able t' get 'em out of memories even if I tried.
