Standing up to Emerson College Radio?

My favorite radio station is Emerson College Radio, WERS 88.9FM Boston. They have a policy and history of being commercial free, but recently started playing an advertisement for Alex's Lemonade Stand that absolutely qualifies as a commercial. I let it sit for a while, but today, just a few moments ago I decided to send them an email about it, ( Read more... )

Just to be a devil's advocate; Alex's Lemonade Stand (I keep spelling it "lemondade" for some reason) is a charity, and therefore not a "commercial" entity, so advertisements for it aren't "commercials" as such.

But yah, non-music noise on radio stations serve primarily to annoy, so fire away. ...While you're at it you could ask that they find a way to not name the station three times in thirty seconds every talk-break. >_>

I suppose one could be nitpicky about the wording, but my point was that they are getting paid to throw something at our ears that has nothing to do with them.

I did toss in a bit about the blatant plastering of self-promotion across the airwaves, mainly to say that I'd been putting up with that, but that plastering for money from other organizations was just taking it too far.

I love their music choices, but recently the rest of their, shall we say, business practices have been annoying the shit out of me.

Also they fail at pronoucing or understanding Spanish. I have heard Hombre Lobo pronouced as "home-brey lobo" and "ombre low-b'ho," and translated as "brother wolf." Excuse me? I don't expect everyone there, or even anyone there, to speak Spanish, but you'd think one of them would know someone who does, and that person could tell them to say "ombre lobo" and translate it correctly as "wolf man." Especially since it's the title of one of the albums they're trying to promote right now. If I hear it butchered one more time by one more person, I just might write them an angry email about that, too.
