J'accuse.

I haven't been reading the MTF threads about the Agassi fiasco, because, well...sometimes I'm entertained by idiotic drivel, and other times I am not. Right now, I'm not really up to dealing with the level of "debate" that goes on at MTF ( Read more... )

It's like in cycling, good luck if you're Eastern European and get caught, but you'll be fine if you're Western European.

A quick question - anything you'd rather the continent and persons therefrom be called? Admittedly I tend to only use it for things like 'South American football is awesome' or 'I have never been to South America'.

I'll respond this one for nastasie: by our actual nationalities. Like, Brazilian, Argentinean, etc.

Totally, I only tend to use it in the geographical sense, but I was more worried that there was a different name for the geographical entity in question.

I don't see a problem with "I've never been to South America". I say "I've never been to Europe." I think it's okay to refer to a continent if your reference is merely geographical. But to make cultural references to an entire continent is almost always a gross generalization, and plainly inaccurate ( ... )

I dunno, South Americans are pretty immoral. You're all drug runners, right? And between the drugs, you party topless on the beaches. I mean...come on. Clearly we are better than you. See how on the map we are on top of you and you are below us? Just proves our superiority.

But honestly, I agree. The same thing happens in hockey with dangerous hits--if it's a star, they get a slap on the wrist fine. If it's anyone else, they get suspended and their salary goes towards ~watever~.

Sports are so equality it blows my mind. gaaaaaaah.

:-PPP

Yeah, money talks, and all that. :/ Sports should be all about noble ideals and shit, but alas...

And yes, to make it even worse, there are problems with misogyny, homophobia and racism. Sad.

I wish they could nail Agassi somehow, but apparently he covered his bases very well. And is going to make a shitload of money too. *barf*

Agassi is an egomaniac and is pretty much tarnishing any legacy he had left. Basically that self-destructiveness he discusses in his book. The more excerpts are released from his books, the more apparent it is how desperate for attention he is. I wonder what Steffi felt about this.

Everything during that time period when Agassi was on drugs should be nullified and all prize money should be rescinded. He needs to be punished in some way.

I agree, but it looks like he covered his bases pretty well. It also looks like ~other people~ are going to be punished instead. :/

Yikes, what a super-mega douche.

See, with me I do agree a bit. Crystal Meth will fuck you up, so in some way's if it had been almost anything else I would care more.

I think the doping stuff has gotten completely out of hand in tennis. Some of the stuff that they decide is relevant is literally so small that if you are on parole and required to be clean and sobor, you will pass that test if you have that amount in your system. With the doping system in place, tennis players wouldn't.

I agree with you about the discrimination though. Part of it is that it's Agassi and he's American and, well, he's not playing anymore. What exactly can they do? *sigh*
