Fic: Drama and Discoveries

Title: Drama and Discoveries
Pairing: None, they're only 12. Still set in the Aftermath 'verse though so it will end up Remus/Sirius.
Summary: The boys find out Remus' secret and he doesn't handle it all that well.
Disclaimer: I didn't make them up. I wish I did but I didn't. I do get to play with them sometimes though, and I say 'play' because I don't get any money out of it so it cannot in any way be described as 'work'.
Warnings: None, unless you have some grand objection to eleven year olds yelling at each other.
Author's Note:It's sort of a sequel to a silly little drabbley thing I wrote where Remus meets Sirius and James for the very first time and the ficlet where Sirius and James become friends.

The second year at Hogwarts was very much like the first, Remus mused as he tried to convince the insane duo that setting dungbombs under the Slytherin table would be too obvious a prank for them to get away with. Peter as usual got swept along in the madness, leaving Remus to act as the voice of reason. He had accepted his new role grudgingly at first. Still, at the end of the year when Peter, James and Sirius gave him a big box of chocolates for "making us study and keeping us from failing or being expelled", he realized that, annoying as it might be sometimes, he liked being the sane Marauder.

The big difference between first and second year was the start of the Severus/Sirius war. Severus had made the mistake of calling Andromeda disgraceful and a blood traitor where Sirius could hear. Sirius had taken on everyone who talked badly about Andie, including his own family. At twelve, he had no way to win against his mother and Severus had just made himself a substitute for all the Blacks who made Sirius's summer hell. James soon joined the battle, dragging Peter in with him.

Once more, Remus was the sane one. In the first month alone he managed to talk Sirius out of turning Snape's hair into snakes ("But Remus! He'll just be showing house pride!"), a first attempt at an obliviate ("But Remus! He could forget he's a git! It's for the good of the school, really.") and introducing Severus to the giant squid ("All those tentacles! Hey, Remus, are you sure it's not a calamari?").

Remus settled down so easily in this new life with his new friends that he forgot to wait for the other shoe to drop. When it finally did, he nearly died from shock.

He was walking up to his dorm when he heard those fateful words.

"I'm telling you James, something's wrong. He always goes to visit his mother during the full moon, see?"

For a few moments after Sirius posed the question Remus forgot how to breathe.

"...maybe his mother has trouble when...you know," James said, his blush obvious in his very voice.

"Oh please, as if she would want her son around during that time," Peter scoffed with the ease of an only boy in a houseful of girls.

"I'm thinking his mother is a werewolf!" Sirius announce triumphantly, "Maybe only Remus can calm her down. It even explains his name."

Remus didn't stay to hear the end of the conversation. He ran, as fast as his legs could carry him, all the way to the Headmaster's office. Professor Dumbledore had given him a password to use in emergencies and minutes later he was breathlessly telling the man what he'd heard.

"Sir, can't we delay the transformation for just one night?" he begged. "I can stay in the dorm just once and then they'll think I can't be a werewolf."

Dumbledore shook his head sadly.

"Please sir, they'll figure it out!"

"You know that's not how it works, Remus."

Dumbledore's tone was gentle but Remus couldn't help but flinch.

"Then..." Remus steeled himself and made his request. "Then can you obliviate them?"

"Remus..."

He could tell that the Headmaster was disapopinted in him but Remus didn't care.

"I want to finish school, sir," he said desperately, "Just remove their memories of me. They'll forget we were friends and then they won't know. James and Sirius are too caught up in their plans to see and Peter won't notice by himself."

"I'm sorry, Remus."

He slumped back in the comfortable armchair, fine tremors running through his body.

"They'll figure it out," he said miserably.

He managed to avoid everyone for the next few days. They'd know soon and they'd shun him anyway. By the time the full moon came Remus was anxious to get it over with. That month the wolf was so frantic in his attempts to escape the Shrieking Shack that Remus woke up with his arm broken in three places.

Madame Pomphrey sighed over the damage he had managed to inflict on himself and dosed him to the eyeballs, allowing him to sleep through the mending. When he woke up it was to the sound of a familiar voice.

"He's our friend," Peter was insisting somewhere to his right.

"He's our werewolf friend."

Remus could well imagine the look on James's face. He sounded exactly like he did when a potion blew up in his face and he had no idea why.

"Still our friend," Peter reiterated, the rare stubborn streak that had landed him in Gryffindor coming through loud and clear.

"Still our friend," James agreed with a sigh. Remus felt the bed dip a little near his left foot.

Sirius had not yet spoken, though Remus could clearly hear him fidget. He fought the urge to tense up, desperate to hear what Sirius would say. Despite the increasing closeness between the four of them, Sirius would always be his first and best friend. his opinion was the most important.

"Are you two done, then? Can I wake him up now?"

The slightly sullen tone was all the reassurance Remus needed. Sirius was impatient to wake him up and, despite his many faults, Sirius was never anxious to cause pain.

"You already did," he murmured and opened his eyes.

When Remus pictured the moment his friends would find out he was a werewolf he expected all kinds of grief and accusations. When he heard them speak just then, he revised his expectations to soft smiles and reassurances. What he didn't expect, in either scenario, was a furious Sirius Black getting into his personal space and yelling: "Friends do not lie to their friends about important things like this, are we clear?"

He most certainly didn't expect said Sirius black to transform from furious to smirking and say: "Guess what we did to Bella while you were busy playing with your furry little friend?"
