Hunger

"The Chinese say that we live in the world of the ten thousand things.
Each of the ten thousand things cries out to us precisely nothing."
--------------Annie Dillard

Adam ate the apple
because, even then in paradise,
he was hungry
for more than a thousand nothings,

The orange sunrise,
the pursed lip strawberry kiss

1) something random: I have pictures of you with your head in Whitney's shirt.
2) challenge: find out where that theme in the finale of the Dvorak sonatina comes from! or, for something not so impossible, take up crocheting
3) a color: Pink with black polka dots. I saw a whole bundle of fabric with a variety of pink and black patterns at the quilt stores and considered making you a quilt.
4) I like that you are immensely knowledgeable and passionate about religion, and that you can make me laugh.
5) My first memory of you is in orchestra. I thought you didn't like me. But then I was sad when you weren't my stand partner anymore. My funniest memories of you are when we both on a paper binge.
6) red winged blackbird
7) asked and answered

you thought I didn't like you?!?! are you kidding? i loved you! I wouldn't have tried to convince you every day to join a sorority if I didn't!

Somehow, I don't remember you trying to convince me to join. but, clearly, it worked, even if it was entirely subliminal.

The funny thing is, most of the people who I think dislike me, or who I dislike, when we first meet, end up being people I really like who are my friends. I'm not good with first impressions...

oh man...I missed one question, and because there is no edit option, I just copied the text and deleted the old message. Sometimes, LJ is just a pain in the ass...

1) something random: you own (or owned...) a Christmas tree costume.
2) challenge: spend an entire day without music or television.
3) metalic colors. Especially silver and gold.
4) I like that you take risks, but aren't stupid about them.
5) one of my best memories of you is from pebble beach.
6) a buffalo
7) would you ever be a foster mother?

1) something random: Every time I order anything with espresso in it, I think of you as I wonder if the drink I am drinking is made with burnt espresso, and if, really, your espresso is better.

2) challenge: make risotto for dinner.

3) color: light sky blue (odd, I know)

4) I like: that you do things I never would have thought of doing.

5) Memory--my memories of you are decidely sparse...I have two, maybe three. One: in Massachusets on the last day of Gathering. William was talking to you, and I was standing with William. Two: in Blacksburg, last night of Gathering, before going skinny dipping. Maybe three: Blacksburg, first day of Gathering, you rode up your bike while several people, including myself, were playing cards. this last one is questionable...

6) a falcon.
7) Would you hate yourself if you became a middle class, father of 2.5 children and owner of 2.5 cars?

yes, my coffee is good. some portland coffee houses are supposedly very good too though. I don't know about denver. the best way to know is to drink the espresso straight. then you can taste it most completely. my favorite way to drink coffee is to chase a shot of straight espresso with cold milk. this is a good safe way to do it because the milk will take away any aftertaste, in case you get a bitter shot. but burned coffee tastes like burned toast, or burned meat, or burned anything else. which is why burned coffee tastes bad: it doesn't taste like coffee, it only tastes like charcoal ( ... )
