we're oddities, not commodities!nasalJuly 1 2008, 13:44:03 UTC
that's exactly, to a t, what it is: co-opting identity politics to turn us all into commodities.
corporations deciding, "yeah, they're faggots and they make us sick, but look at the median incomes of san francisco and the village in ny and boystown in chicago! we're missing our chance to make billions of dollars off of them!"
making us marketing targets instead of people. wallets.
My boss was annoyed when I refused to march in the parade with my company (#135). It didn't help that he knows I'm queer. Or that I kept making suggestions that he didn't quite understand (Hey, you should have everyone wear a red hanky in their rear left pocket...)
it's cool that they have a float, though: my co-workers seemed baffled as to why i would want to go to a "gay parade"
and i'm pretty sure i work with a few homophobic people, though they're all "city assholes" and so they shut their mouths about their prejudices (except sexism.)
