Pre-Genin: Yes, Father

Sep 11, 2006 20:33

Hinata tries her best but she just can’t bring herself to like her father’s study. The room feels always a bit cold, even in the middle of a summer, and despite of all the space the walls are too close, suffocating her slowly. It’s yet another failure that makes her inferior to Hanabi who seems to thrive in there.

“Father,” Hinata says softly and bows, and at least in this she is better than her younger sister. Hinata knows the etiquette better than anyone else in the Hyuuga household, including the regal man in front of her. “You wished to see me.”

“The graduation exams are tomorrow.” Hiashi’s stiff back is turned to Hinata and because his attention isn’t really on her, he doesn’t notice how she squeezes her eyes shut, doesn’t see her fidgeting fingers and for that she is grateful. She hates it, hates the way her hands keep moving even though she wills them to be still.

“Yes, father.” She knows very well what he will say, can already feel the dull, familiar pain of his words.

“See that you'll pass them,” he says simply, and Hinata hears see that you will not shame the clan more than you already have.

“Yes, father.” She closes her mouth and then opens it again, but in the end she remains silent because I will try my best wouldn’t be enough for him.

“You may go now.” He hasn’t moved at all, his tall, dark silhouette a sharp contrast against the doorway. Hanabi is outside, training.

“Yes, father.”
