Kabumi had lived her life in lies, so much that she didn't bother trying to figure out what life would have been like if she had been "normal." She couldn't imagine what it would be like to say something and mean only that, to be honest in every word and every thought and every action ( ... )

Ah. She was here.

A half-second later saw a similarly shrouded figure materializing behind Kabumi on the bridge - a cursory glance around confirmed she hadn't been followed. They were safe. Sasoriza made a small 'hmph' sound and brushed Kabumi's shoulder with a hand - signalling that they take this somewhere a little less exposed.

Moments later they were both back in the cavern set into the cliff-face; surrounded by Sasoriza's puppets and tools and lit by candlelight. Sasoriza ditched the cloak and faced her agent with a neutral expression.

"Welcome back, Kabumi-chan. How are things?"

The question was loaded, but then - so was everything about Sasoriza. She'd designed herself that way.

The woman-puppet didn't stand much for ceremony (although occasionally on theatrics--a hidden cave for a clandestine meeting?), so Kabumi shrugged off her own cloak while she spoke. "Tolerable."

She glanced about for a seat, and when she didn't find one immediately--how many tools did Sasoriza have?--she started folding up her cloak.

"Orochimayu is distracted," Kabumi said, with perhaps the faintest bit of contempt. Being with Sasoriza was the only time she could drop the slavish respect she continually paid the snake sannin. "She's playing with her swordswoman and the girl, and has done little else of late."

"And she expects to take over the world with a couple of sub-par zombies?" The sarcasm in Sasoriza's voice could have cut ice, but then she did reserve a special place of loathing in her heart for her ex-partner in Akatsuki. She pushed a chair out for Kabumi and took up a seat on the workbench, reaching out to stroke the hair of the nearest human-puppet as one would a cat.

"Has she been treating you acceptably?" Sasoriza demanded, eyes fixed on Kabumi's.
