Thus far, not even a thoroughly engrossing account of a rabies pandemic in the early years of Konoha's founding had been managed to keep the thoughts at bay.
So his dark eyes--the bandages on his cheek had been removed early that morning--widened with relief as the door opened, even when he recognized the visitor as Kiba's teammate. He wasn't sure why Hinaji'd be visiting--their brief conversation had utterly slipped his mind--but the boy was a nice kid anyway. Quiet, and a good balance for Kiba's impulsiveness.
"Hey, Hinaji-kun. Kiba's not here, if you're looking for her."

Despite Hinaji wanting desperately to ask just what Hanato had wanted to say about her, he couldn't just jump into it. It was rude, but mainly he just didn't know what to say.

He shouldn't smell like that, not when he was just coming to pay a visit to his teammate's older brother. Maybe something about hospitals threw him off? Or maybe it was visiting an injured man--although he was a ninja, and Kiba had mentioned once that Hinaji liked making herbal remedies to help with injuries ( ... )

"I'm not sure," he said quickly, cutting off that train of thought. "I hadn't really thought about it..." He smiled a little forcefully. "Making salves isn't very much, but I like helping if I can." If anything, he'd only become more nervous no matter how much he tried to stamp it down.
Hanato was an Inuzuka. There was nothing to worry about.
"B-but actually... I was wondering something...about a medic..." He trailed off, not quite sure how to continue. The last thing he wanted to do was offend an injured friend.
