There was a pause.

There was a long pause.

There was a long, dreadful, murderous pause in which Kureno hardly did anything but stare at the box of condoms on his desk and count to ten--several times over.

"Kiba," he spoke at last in that kind of tone where it's obvious a lot of willpower and self-restraint is being used. "You have exactly one minute to explain what you're doing before I do something I'm probably going to regret."

'But not really.'

Silently, internally, Kiba was gleeful. After many many years with Kureno as her sensei, it had become almost impossible to invoke that tone. He had simply... become immune to her actions. But with this stunt (and really, he deserved it after everything) it seemed she'd managed to pull that tone out of him.

... it was so good to have him as her sensei again.

Externally however, Kiba put on a 'surprised' face, almost hurt, at Kureno using that tone of voice. "Why do you sound so upset? I just want you to be safe. I worry about you, you know. You're my sensei and I just want to make sure you're safe and taken care of. You know that."

Kureno didn't even blink. "Forty-five seconds."

"Blame Asuka."

She let the grin cross her face, unable to help it. "She's the one who mentioned that you two were going on a date. I teased her about it so, I mean, I had do it a little to you too. Just a little. And honestly, they're just condoms."

... Kiba almost asked him if he had never seen them before, and wisely decided not to do that.

The corners of his mouth lifted in the resemblance of a small grin. His own guilt had made him turn away from it before, but the fact that despite the changes his status had gone through over the past year, his students still respected him. Well, Kiba certainly did anyway, but the Inuzuka's loyalty would have led her to tell him her concern about any of the others were they of different opinions.

They were good kids; wise adults.

Kureno leafed a few papers in front of him together. "Anything else that's new that I should be aware about?"

"Not too much, really." Kiba said, scratching her head absently. "Hoshino's been quiet lately, I think she's still a bit upset about the gala thing- you know her. I'ma go check on her within the next couple days and make sure she isn't brooding or anything silly like that."

There was a moments debate about whether she should mention her and Hinaji, but she was fairly sure that Kureno already knew they were dating. Really, everyone knew they were dating at this point. And had been for, what, almost two years now? Long time.

"Sachiko's been hanging about the compound more, I guess that's something," Kiba added in, slitted eyes watching him. "I can even get her to stay for dinner's and stuff now. She'll even help cook sometimes. S'good, I think, that she can be around people and clan now and not freak out or stiffen up."

"Really," he said, slightly miffed. Thinking about it, Kureno supposed Sachiko had been becoming progressively smoother around her rough edges, but he hadn't really taken thought to notice it much as his mind had been rather preoccupied. But it seemed some of that evolution was Kiba's doing, huh? "Sounds like you're a good influence then."

Kiba couldn't help it; she laughed. "That you can say that is utterly amazing sensei. I find that amazing. And I don't think its me so much as the environment. She's... better at interact. It's like she's re-socialized."

He grin widened into a faint smile. "... it's like a snarling dog that's been beaten. You can't expect it to suddenly be okay overnight. It takes time. I... I think we're good friends now. I know its weird, and I don't... forgive her for what she did, but I understand it, I guess. I'm glad she seems happier. Most everyone should be happy."
