[Thread] Pride and Falls [Kureno & Hanabi]

Nov 17, 2007 18:20

Being a Hyuuga, Hanabi was aware that he was meant to mind his own business. It was the most important business, so that was why; but for the past year or so Suzumo had been busy teaching him about humanity in general - and it had rubbed off.

Hanabi was now set in the ways of minding everybody's business. So as he walked into the Academy in search ( Read more... )

Having people stare at him was something Kureno had gotten used to, though he did hate it when they came up close to do so. Sometimes even worse when they addressed him because that just meant it was someone he actually knew. (Or someone who actually knew him.) The sound of the bristles against the floor stopped as he turned his head up to see who it was.

A Hyuuga. Perfect.

"Good afternoon, Hanabi." He didn't offer any further pleasantries than that, but kept his manners by keeping his attention on the young air.

Hanabi nodded in acceptance of the exchanged greeting, taking in Kureno's general air and appearance. No need to ask if he was doing this voluntarily, because there was no chance of that. But why was he doing it? Hanabi didn't attend the Academy, nor did he understand the extend of what was going on with Hinaji's sensei - save that it had involved Saurtobi Asuka and Konohako was upset and Hinaji was upset about it, but not talking.

In fact, nobody was talking about Yuuhi Kureno in the Hyuuga Compound these days. Hanabi hadn't noticed until he thought about it right now. His quiet, oh-so-understated antagonistic relationship with the head of the clan had always made him a person of curious commentary... Hanabi wondered slightly at how quickly a name could fall from use and thought. He also wondered if it was deliberate.

Hm.

"Why have they got you cleaning the floor?"

What? It was a legitimate question.

Of all the things this kid had to ask... Didn't he know yet already? Or was this maybe a Hyuuga's idea of rubbing this entire incident in his face? He wouldn't be surprised by the latter.

"Ask a teacher," Kureno replied after a silent moment. "They can tell you."

He turned back down to continue his task, intending to let the talking end there.

There was a moment's pause, then Hanabi lowered his thin black eyebrow, which had raised itself like a cat arching its back, and sat down on the steps leading down from the desks. This was a tiered classroom, convieniently. He would ask a teacher. He'd ask his own teacher, once he went to find him. Until then, he'd simply sit and watch Kureno for a while. He would try to puzzle it out for himself, the situation - because if he wasn't to be told then there was no other way to get the answer right then and there ( ... )
