Fandom: Xena, Warrior Princess
Pairing: Xena/Gabrielle
Theme set: Gamma
Rating: I have a G-rated mind, what can I say?
Notes: Some of it is canonically based, but I'm not telling which, because it's all pretty vague, so if you haven't seen the episodes concerned, they don't read as canon detail.
#01 - Ring
Xena didn't give Gabrielle a ring, because life on the road was hardly conducive to keeping such fineries safe, but the promise of her love brought out a sparkle in the blonde's eyes that was brighter than any diamond.
#02 - Hero
At the time, the thought that Xena couldn't always be a hero didn't even cross Gabrielle's mind.
#03 - Memory
Gabrielle's memories were largely of pain, death, and a love that made it all worthwhile.
#04 - Box
There was no box, no wrapping or ribbon, but the scroll Xena handed to her that night - handwritten by the tenth muse herself! - was easily the most thoughtful gift Gabrielle had ever received.
#05 - Run
In truth, Gabrielle had been terrified the night she ran away from home, but she knew it would be okay when she found Xena, so she kept going.
#06 - Hurricane
Gabrielle hardly thought it was fair that there was practically hurricane blowing outside the ship - which really just added to her seasickness - but she had to admit that Xena was doing a very good job of keeping her comfortable during the storm.
#07 - Wings
Hermes himself in his winged sandals couldn't have soared higher than Xena did when Gabrielle told her she loved her.
#08 - Cold
The first night Gabrielle shivered in her sleep, it was Xena who crossed the camp to lie down beside her.
#09 - Red
Gabrielle smiled at her fellow Amazons, and only her bloodshot eyes betrayed the lack of sleep that accompanied her anxiousness for Xena's return.
#10 - Drink
Xena hated when Gabrielle drank, not because she became talkative, but because she became silent.
#11 - Midnight
Midnight was always the worst time for both of them, when the memories of past deeds made Xena tremble with their intensity, and Gabrielle could do nothing but wait for her friend to return to her.
#12 - Temptation
The temptation to touch Gabrielle was all but unbearable, but Xena was nothing if not a master of her own will.
#13 - View
Gabrielle had to admit that the view from her room was stunning, but not nearly as much as the querious blue eyes she caught following her from the adjacent balcony.
#14 - Music
Gabrielle wasn't much of a musician in the typical sense, but there was a melody in her stories that was lovelier than any song.
#15 - Silk
Gabrielle may have been a princess, but there would be no silk dresses or courtships with princes in her future, and for that she was grateful.
#16 - Cover
The moment that Gabrielle's body covered Terreis in a last-ditch attempt to shield the wounded Amazon princess, Xena knew she wasn't dealing with an ordinary village girl.
#17 - Promise
Xena didn't understand why Gabrielle stayed with her; she couldn't promise the bard safety or happiness, only her love and the pain that came with it.
#18 - Dream
Life on the road wasn't at all like Gabrielle had dreamed it would be, but life with Xena was so much better than anything she had ever hoped for.
#19 - Candle
Xena scarely noticed that Gabrielle had blown out the candle serving as the room's only source of light, until she felt her partner's arms wind themselves around her, guiding her towards the bed.
#20 - Talent
Xena would have counted Gabrielle's disarming charm as a talent if she thought for a moment that her companion ever had or would ever need to put any effort into it.
#21 - Silence
Once, Xena longed for silence, a brief reprieve from Gabrielle's endless chatter, but now she wished Gabrielle would tell her stories once more.
#22 - Journey
No matter what anyone said, the journey wasn't Xena's, but Gabrielle's.
#23 - Fire
On difficult nights when tempers flared and harsh words were exchanged, the fire acted as a barrier between lovers.
#24 - Strength
For a bard, Xena thought, Gabrielle had very little understanding of the power of her own words.
#25 - Mask
They both wore masks - Xena's hid her weakness; Gabrielle's hid her strength.
#26 - Ice
Waking up in a tomb of ice, Xena's only thoughts were of Gabrielle.
#27 - Fall
Xena always knew that it would be she who caused Gabrielle's fall from grace.
#28 - Forgotten
Xena sometimes worried that Gabrielle had forgotten what it was like when she was innocent; Gabrielle worried that Xena remembered.
#29 - Dance
Xena didn't dance, unless asked by Gabrielle, very nicely and in a private room with no chance of being seen.
#30 - Body
Xena, it seemed, was either completely unaware of the effect her body had on people, or a master of the most sublime form of torture.
#31 - Sacred
Sometimes it seemed that Xena's only acknowledgement of that which was sacred was to determine how many ways she could make it profane.
#32 - Farewells
Over the years, Gabrielle learned to hate farewells, for they all too often turned out to be permanent.
#33 - World
Gabrielle wasn't sure when it happened, but at some point her desire to see the world was replaced by a desire to be with Xena.
#34 - Formal
Xena didn't care for the formalities involved in an official Amazon marriage, but it was important to Gabrielle, so she went ahead with it anyway.
#35 - Fever
Xena wasn't one for prayer as a general rule, but when Gabrielle's fever spiked and the delirium took over, she entreated any god that would listen for help.
#36 - Laugh
Gabrielle treasured the rare moments that evoked genuine laughter from Xena.
#37 - Lies
For I am dying of such love - that single truth eclipsed all of the lies.
#38 - Forever
No matter how many times Gabrielle told her otherwise, there was always a part of Xena that couldn't quite believe in the promise of forever.
#39 - Overwhelmed
Surrounded and completely overwhelmed by enemy forces, Gabrielle knew she could accept her death readily with Xena beside her.
#40 - Whisper
Though Xena had long since left the land of the living, there were moments when Gabrielle could have sworn that she heard the warrior's voice, a breathy whisper in the wind that tickled her ears before abandoning her to stark solitude once again.
#41 - Wait
Gabrielle understood that Xena was not yet ready to love, and she could wait.
#42 - Talk
Xena made a show of pretending not to be listening, but in truth, she loved hearing Gabrielle talk.
#43 - Search
Gabrielle's search for who she really was began and ended with Xena.
#44 - Hope
At the sight of one village girl standing brave in the face of danger, Xena felt a surge of hope she had long ago given up on, both for humanity and for herself.
#45 - Eclipse
In those moments where Xena's anger eclipsed all else, Gabrielle was the single star in the sky that lit the way home.
#46 - Gravity
Although Xena had informed her that no, euphoria could not, in fact, cause a person to float away, Gabrielle could have sworn that when their lips touched, her feet left the ground.
#47 - Highway
Xena's hands gripped the Argo's reigns tighter as she rode away - from her past, from Gabrielle, from that accursed village of hers - for the last time.
#48 - Unknown
Unknown places didn't frighten Gabrielle nearly as much as the situations that came with them, when she didn't know who Xena was anymore.
#49 - Lock
Gabrielle didn't hold the key to Xena's heart - she was the key.
#50 - Breathe
The world ceased to exist in that moment, until Xena heard Gabrielle take a gasping breath as she opened her eyes, and time started again.
