Thank you, sitting government, for making my country yet another Black Hole of the Internet. Thank you for messing with what I consider to be one of the most important and fundamental rights in a democratic society - freedom of expression. No, I'm not particularly worried that you would read my private love letters - as long as I avoid writing ( Read more... )

fail, paranoia, politics, who'd bomb this country anyway?, 1984, censorship is bad, my opinionz

The government has recently accepted a law that gives this organisation the right to store and supervise all the electronic communication passing within, into, and from Sweden, all in the quest to stop terrorist activity, despite the public's protests.

Blech. It is getting quite ridiculous nowadays. Really, it's strange that governments have such an obsession with passing laws like that, despite the fact that people hate them and it doesn't seem like they're going to help much anyway. I mean, if you were a terrorist making plans over the internet, and you knew that you lived in a country that had that law... you would be really careful, and they'd have to sift through a ton of crap to get to your communications, anyway. I think just about everyone over here hated it when we found out about all of the wiretaps they were doing. I sort of thought that Sweden had more sense than that, though.

I didn't know you were Swedish!

WTF? In SWEDEN? And I thought your country's politics were pretty cool compared to us. skjhfdksgah gahhh that just... sucks so much. x___X;; And yeah, it's not like just this makes a country totalitarian but it sure shows which direction it's going.

I thought so too... No, seriously, I did think our politicans would have sense enough to keep a level head in all this terrorism hype, but appearantly I was misstaken. How are Finnish politics worse than Swedish? *is ridiculously ignorant of Nordic politics outside her own country*

Err.. dunno really, I've just had the impression about a lot of things. *shrug* ^^;;; Like the way you're actually nice to immigrants and stuff. Or so I've heard. Here the treatment of immigrants is just ridiculous. And gay rights \o/;;; *cough, I'm not biased or anything honestly*

Hmm, at least you can't be worse off about immigrants than Iceland. In Sweden, well... I don't exactly consider it nice to let a person stay in the country for years and years before letting them know whether or not they are allowed to stay.
Norway is a lot cooler when it comes to gay rights. They've just recently come to the conclusion that marriage is marriage, no matter the sexes of those who marry. :D Here we still have civil unions...
