Sam Evans, I know your secrets. And I'm sharing them, too.

So let me start this entry with the disclaimer that I've actually never seen the movie Avatar. (Either movie called Avatar, actually, though for our purposes only the one with the giant blue guys and not the one with the problematically white Inuit really matters.)

How dare I try my hand at Sam without having seen That Movie? )

I had to, ok. It's fine for us to figure out what's going on with Sam, but FANDOM HAS TO KNOW.

Oh, don't look so scandalized, Santana, you know you were thinking it.

Kurt's 'I'm judging you' look will never get old.

I have other things to say that could theoretically make me sound like I know what I'm talking about but first:

Could you explain to me Santana's absurd obsession with Breadstix, because I think I missed that? XD

Ahaha. I think it's probably partly fanon, but she does at one point talk about bringing a wheelbarrow and forcing them to fill it up with breadsticks (they had to call the corporate office and a waitress got fired, iirc). She spends an inordinate amount of time torturing the waitstaff there to get extra food. :D

Oh no, ha ha, no I knew about the obsession itself, but I meant could you explain the reasoning behind it? Unless you don't know, but your post sounded like you DID think there was a reason for it.

I'm confusing myself, haha.

Haha, okay. And I guess my actual point was more...see, Santana's Breadstix thing isn't necessarily all about coming down to her archetype. It's just about being Santana, not about being Mean Slutty Cheerleader #2. And Kurt's grief thing is about being Kurt, the boy whose mom died when he was very young, and not about being That Flaming Gay Kid.

Sam's got things--like the body issues, for instance--that are about him being Sam and not about being That Guy From Dances With Wolves. Which makes him a good character beyond the archetype (but also makes figuring out the archetype very confusing for some people, go fig.)

Of course, it all does come back together, and Santana's 'stix thing does make sense, since it's about power for her. She can make the staff utterly miserable and they can't stop her, and every time she makes a boy buy her dinner, she's reminding herself that she has power to take things from him. Breadstix is her happy place because it's the place where, even if she's awful, she's still safe/in charge. And she ( ... )
