So, this was Earth.
Sodam had never been this far before. Sector 2814 was a long way from Oa and the planet in question is a bit on the more uninhabited side of the sector, the only planet in its solar system to have life. He'd heard a lot about Earth, of course - some of the most famous (and infamous) members of the Corps were from there. Guy Gardner, a Lantern who'd given him more hell than anyone else he could think of, was from there. Kyle Rayner, role model to rookies everyone, was an Earth Lantern as well. Hell, even Hal Jordan - probably the most well-known Lantern in recent memory - was from... where else?
It was no wonder, Sodam thought as he stared down at it. Earth was... there was no other word for it... beautiful.
Yeah, Daxam was bigger. And had more land. But Earth was just... incandescent. If this was how it looked from space, Sodam could only imagine how it looked on the ground. He was sorely tempted to just stay for a week, fly over the cities and see the Earthpeople civilization, as much of it as he could.
Unfortunately, Sodam Yat wasn't here for there. He was here for the same reason he went a lot of places in the Corps: Orders.
Specifically, Guy Gardner had ordered him to do a patrol of Earth and make sure there weren't any 'creepy crawlies givin' the League hell.' Who the 'League' was, Gardner didn't say. He didn't say a lot, actually - information was strictly need to know, and no one was quicker to remind Sodam Yat he was low man on the totem pole than Guy Gardner. And Gardner made it very clear to him that if Sodam didn't get his patrol done and get back to Oa before his absence was noticed, he'd be on head duty for a week.
That was a privilege Sodam could live without.
So he had an hour to patrol and then get back to Oa. All seemed calm on the little blue world. Of course, looks could be deceiving.
Grinning, Sodam plunged into the atmosphere.
